Toothache To The Head And Ears, How Come?

Toothache is a very uncomfortable feeling, even occasionally interfering with activities because the effects can reach the head and ears. So, why does toothache reach the ears and head? What are the causes and how to prevent it?

Toothache is one of the disorders in the oral cavity that occurs due to several causes. This can cause pain or soreness that comes from the area around the tooth. This not only affects the teeth and mouth, but can spread to the head and ears.

One of the possible causes is because the ear, nose and throat (ENT) are connected. Therefore, tooth pain can reach the head and ears. In addition, the teeth and brain are connected via nerve networks which can cause tooth and headaches simultaneously.

Causes of toothache to the head and ear

Well, you should know some of the causes of toothache to the head and ears to get the most appropriate treatment.

1. Bruxism

Habitual teeth grinding (bruxism) can be one of the causes of toothache to the head and ears. Bruxism usually occurs at night and causes other problems, such as head and earaches, damaged tooth enamel, and tooth sensitivity.

2. Cavities

Bacterial infections that accumulate to cavities sometimes make us feel toothache to the head and ear. This condition can occur because the teeth, head, and ears are connected by the trigeminal nerve. The trigeminal nerve is a type of nerve that connects the head with most of the mouth, including the upper and lower lips, jaw, tongue, and teeth. This causes tooth pain to be followed by headaches and migraines at the same time.

3. Gum problems (periodontitis)

Gum disease or periodontitis is an infection of the gums that must be watched out for. This condition is usually characterized by bleeding gums, loose teeth, or pus in the gums. Infections in the gums can also interfere with the function of other organs, such as the ears, head and neck.

4. Wisdom tooth impaction

Incomplete growth of wisdom teeth can lead to wisdom tooth impaction. Impaction can cause pain in the teeth next to it. The position of the teeth at the back can also cause pain to the head or front of the ear.

So how to treat toothache to the head and ear?

You can try painkillers to relieve the pain temporarily. However, if the toothache to the head and ear is unbearable or lasts for a long period of time, please consult a dentist.

Well, to avoid this happening to your teeth, overcome dental and oral problems by always maintaining hygiene and routine dental consultations every six months.
