Tooth extraction results in dry socket

Dry Socket is a problem that can occur after tooth extraction. When a tooth is extracted, a blood clot can form in the hole in the bone where the tooth is (socket). This disorder occurs when a blood clot breaks loose or does not form at all. Without blood clots, bones and nerves are directly exposed to the environmental area around the mouth. This problem can cause pain and delay healing in the surgical area.

Dry Socket can develop after a tooth is extracted, then a blood clot does not form afterwards. Some of the suspected bacteria that cause this problem are contamination, the effects of the food consumed, and other things that enter the mouth.

Factors that can increase a person's risk of experiencing dry socket, namely:
1. Smoking habits, namely the chemicals in cigarettes can prevent or slow down the healing of
    wounds and even contaminate them.
2. Oral contraceptives ie high levels of estrogen from these contraceptives can interfere with
the normal healing process and increase the risk of dry socket.
3. Improper care Not following the doctor's instructions for care and oral hygiene can
   also increase the risk.
4. Experiencing a tooth or gum infection, which is an infection that occurs in the mouth or
around a extracted tooth can also increase the risk of dry socket.

Dry Socket Symptoms

If you look at the extraction site and the hole looks dry, you may have dry socket.
When normal, a dark blood clot will form, but only the white part of the bone remains.
In addition, pain can also be felt starting about 2 days after the tooth is extracted.
Gradually this problem got worse and even spread to the ears. Other symptoms that
can occur together are bad breath and discomfort in the mouth.

conclusion

Feelings of pain and discomfort are normal after tooth extraction.
However, if the pain gets worse in the following days after tooth extraction,
see a dentist immediately for treatment, especially if it is caused by an infection.
and talk to your dentist about prescription or over-the-counter medications or
supplements you take every day, as they can interfere with blood clotting,
as well as avoiding chemicals such as smoking and also consuming healthy and
nutritious food so that our teeth are always maintained.
