Benefits of Aloe Vera for Dental and Oral Health

 What is aloe vera?

Aloe vera is a plant species with thick fleshy leaves from the genus Aloe. A type of plant that has been known since thousands of years ago. This plant gel is known by the scientific name Aloe barbadensis, rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids and enzymes, in addition to several substances with antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe vera is used as a hair fertilizer, wound healer, and for skin care. It turns out that not only that aloe vera also has benefits for dental and oral health.

What are the benefits of aloe vera for dental and oral health?

Research published in the Journal of Indian Society and Periodontology has shown that aloe vera has natural antibacterial properties and can destroy germs that cause tooth decay. The benefits of aloe vera for the mouth are obtained from the various contents of aloe vera, such as salicylic acid, lignin components, saponins, and anthraquinone.

The benefits of aloe vera for dental and oral health:
1. As a medicine for toothache

This benefit is obtained from anthraquinon compounds which are anti-inflammatory and able to kill harmful microorganisms on the teeth

2. Inflammation of Gingivitis
Gingivitis is a gum disease in which plaque builds up on the teeth. If there is too much plaque on            the teeth it can cause inflammation of the gums, not only that Gingivitis can also cause bleeding              gums. Research says aloe vera can improve healing in Gingivitis.

3. Periodontitis

This gum disease destroys the bone supporting the teeth. It is the bacteria in periodontitis that trigger an inflammatory response, causing painful, swollen gums. The effect of aloe vera gel on periodontal pockets found that the gel can improve these symptoms due to its antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties.

4. Treating Wounds in the Oral Cavity Due to Dentures
Dentures that are not good, for example, have sharp edges or are too tight, have the risk of causing sores in the oral cavity to trigger inflammation. This condition can be overcome by aloe vera gel, because it contains aloe vera which has antifungal and antibacterial properties

5. Other oral problems

Because aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, it helps protect and repair the mouth from canker sores, herpes simplex, and lichen planus.

How to use aloe vera for oral and dental health

The method is actually quite easy, namely applying aloe vera gel to the area that hurts, using toothpaste that contains aloe vera, and you can also rinse your mouth directly using aloe vera gel that we have prepared ourselves. This method can be applied regularly after brushing your teeth or flossing.
Even though the benefits are abundant, it should be emphasized that the use of aloe vera should not be used as the main treatment. The use of aloe vera gel or dental care products that contain aloe is only a side treatmen
