                                DENTAL DISEASES IN TODDLERS

Teeth are useful for pronouncing words clearly when speaking, appearance/smiling, incisors for cutting, canines for tearing, molars for grinding food. Each toddler will have 1 set of baby teeth (20 in total).

Dental and oral health is often neglected by parents of toddlers. Low awareness in caring for dental and oral health is one of the causes of dental and oral diseases.

As a result of neglecting oral and dental health and covering children's teeth with problems, they do not need treatment because they will soon develop permanent dental disease (adult teeth). Even though dental and mouth problems in children can affect the growth and development of children.

Dental and oral disease is a disease that has a serious impact on general health, because the teeth and mouth are the entry points for germs and bacteria. so that it is likely to interfere with the health of other organs of the body.

Treatment of dental and oral diseases in toddlers is required to be handled more quickly. Knowing the type of dental and oral disease from the start is very important. Therefore it is necessary to have a system that has the ability to classify the types of dental and oral diseases to help people make an early diagnosis of dental and oral diseases.

The following diseases that often occur in toddlers:

1. Porous teeth until only roots remain

This happens to toddlers who often use a pacifier or milk bottle as a lullaby, for hours on end. This process of tooth loss takes place slowly, and in the end the only teeth that are left are the roots.
If that happens, bacteria will gather in the area which can later cause bleeding in the toddler's gums.

How to deal with porous teeth in toddlers:

- Brush your teeth regularly 2 times a day.
- Use fluoride toothpaste.
- Limit sugar intake.
- Give more calcium and vitamins.
- Give probiotics, such as yogurt.
- Give enough fluids

2. cavities in toddlers

This is the most common dental problem in toddlers. The cause is food residue left on the teeth and not cleaned. If left unchecked, the holes in the milk teeth will move to the child's permanent teeth.

Cavities are characterized by white or yellow spots on the teeth. So, if your little one complains of pain in his teeth, immediately consult a dentist, so that cavities do not become a nest of bacteria.

How to deal with cavities in toddlers:

- Teach children to routinely brush their teeth 2x a day in the morning and at night before       going to bed.
- Give toothpaste containing fluoride.
- Limit sweet and sticky foods in children.
- Teach children to rinse their mouths after eating or drinking, especially sweet ones.
- Drink a lot of water.

3. Teeth Forward (Object)

The cause of the emergence of forward teeth (overbite) can be due to heredity and bad habits. These bad habits include pacifying, thumb sucking, sucking on a bottle and sucking on the lower lip.

This bad habit tends to change the shape of the jaw so that the roof of the mouth is more inward.
As a result, the area for growing teeth becomes narrower, so that the teeth appear more advanced than other teeth.

How to deal with advanced teeth in toddlers:

- Stop the Habit of Thumb Sucking.
- Stop the habit of sucking.
- Stop the habit of breathing through the mouth.

The conclusions we can draw from this article are:

There is a relationship between dental and oral diseases and early symptoms of dangerous diseases in toddlers. Therefore, awareness, willingness and ability are needed to create a healthy life, including dental and oral health for every parent of toddlers in order to achieve optimal health status.
