Definition of dental retainer 

A dental Retainer is a tool uset to hold teeth best position after braces treatment. There are tools that can be removed and installed by yourself and need to be used so that fashion don't fall apart again.

When the braces the treatment is finished,

the jawbone and soft tissue mau not be able to hold the teeth.so,so that the position of the teeth does not change again,the patient must use a retainer.

The first few months after having braces removed is whe the teeth are most likely to move into their ond position.To prevent this from happening ,the dentist Will recommend that you use a retainer.if not you Will most likely have to use braces again.

Types of dental retainers 

1.hawley retainers

This model the oldest type,the shape surrounds the  teeth,the front is wire and the back is made of transparent plastic.

2.Retainer clear

The advantage of this type of Retainer is that  Its transparent color look better aesthetically.Also,because it doesn't have a plate on the plate,it's generally more comfortable to use .

The color is transparent,this tool changes color easiy,especlally if those who use it often consume colored foods and drink such as tea and coffee.

3.Fixet retainers.

As the name implies,this type of retainer is a fixed device that cannot be removed by the patient himself .To hold the teeth in place,the doctor Will attach wires or fiber threads to the back surface of the front teeth.

Fixed retainers have several advantage,one of which is that they are not easy to lose or forget to use because they are attached to the teeth.Meanwhile,the drawback is that because of ITS permanent position,the cleanliness of the teeth,espesially the gaps between the teeth around the Retainer,must be maintained very well,because it can become a place for food debris to nest.

Of the three types otlf dental retainers above,the types most ofter used after wearing braces are Hawley and clear Retainer

                                 

How long should a dental retainer be worn.

Dental retainers need to be used for 24 hours during the first six mouths after removing the braces.Then  after that,you only need to use it at night for at least two years,After a few years,use can be reduced to just abfew nidhts a week.

However,di not stop wearing the Retainer altogether as teeth are not static.From time to time the teeth mau move,this is a natural event.It is feared that the teeth have changed their position so that the Retainer is no longer fit.

How long you need to wear retainers Will be determine by your doctor.Usually,the priod of wearing retainers Will be the same as the priod of wearing braces,but it can also be longer.in fact,some patients may have to wear retainers for the rest of their lives. 

How to care for dental retainers
