DENTAL FLOSS
Dental floss is a dental cleaning product in the form of wax-coated threads, some are not. Dental floss is useful for removing plaque from the interproximal surfaces of the teeth and removing food debris from lower contact points. Flossing is another way to clean your teeth besides using a toothbrush.
Brushing your teeth twice a day is actually not enough to keep your teeth clean and healthy. Because toothbrushes don't always reach the nooks and crannies between the teeth, food debris often gets stuck between the teeth.
Brushing only removes plaque from the front and back of the teeth, whereas flossing helps remove plaque from between the teeth and under the gums, which can lead to periodontal diseases such as periodontal disease and gingivitis.
Apart from plaque, flossing also helps remove food particles that are trapped or stuck between the teeth which can cause tooth decay. Flossing is very good when used to remove food scraps from between the teeth, maintain dental hygiene and reduce the amount of food waste.
diseases that can be prevented by using dental floss
1. Tartar
Tartar generally does not cause symptoms or affect the function of the teeth themselves. However, treated tartar can cause problems with teeth and gums, such as gingivitis
2. Gingivitis
Gingivitis is a condition caused by inflammation of the gums and is characterized by swelling and redness of the gums around the base of the teeth. This condition can be caused by a buildup of food in the teeth and gums. The food particles that collect harden and form plaque.
3. Caries
Caries is permanent damage to the outer layer of the teeth caused by bacteria on the teeth. This is one of the most common dental problems in both adults and children, even though prevention is very easy, one way is by using dental floss.
How To Dental Floss
Flossing Tips :
- Cut thread about 45 cm long and wrap it 1 finger on each hand.
- Hold the thread firmly between your thumb and forefinger with about an inch between them, being careful not to lose.
- Use gentle "rocking" motion to guide the floss into the gums.
- When the floss reaches your gumline, curve it into a C-shape against a tooth until you feel resistance.
- Hold the floss against the tooth. Gently scrape the side of the tooth, moving the floss away from the gum. Repeat on the other side of the gap, along the side of the next tooth.
- Do not forget the back of your last tooth.
- When flossing, keep to a regular pattern. Start at the top and work from left to right, then move to the bottom and again work from the left to right. This way you're less likely to miss any teeth.
